A flash fiction by Erica Fransisca.
When your job requires you to enter people’s worst nightmares, there are few things in the world that can scare you. As a Dreamcatcher, I’ve fought monsters of all kinds, faced the foulest ghosts, experienced the most horrific disasters, overcome tremendous fears and dealt with heart-wrenching heartbreaks.
And yet no matter how many nightmares I’ve vanquished and skilled I become, there’s one thing that still makes my heart lurch with unbearable dread.
As I sheathed my blood-soaked sword and stepped over the demon’s corpse, I retrieved the phone that stopped ringing a minute too soon.
1 missed call from Mom.
