The Uninhabited Beauty of Lihaga Island

I’m an Indonesian and I have yet to discover the wonders of my own country. A few months back, me and my family went to Manado, the capital city of North Sulawesi, and there I discovered one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve been to. Pulau Lihaga (Lihaga Island) is a small uninhabited island located about 2 hours from Manado. Although it has begun to climb its way to the top of must-visit places in Indonesia, the island is still a stunning feat of nature.

Clear blue water, white sand and the intimacy of that place is a luxury rarely offered. As I said before, the island is uninhabited and its allure has yet to be exposed to the world. I truly truly loved the place. You can go snorkeling or swim around the island, or even just lie on the sand and soak up all the natural vibes.

That’s paradise right there!

How to Get There?

From the center of Manado you’ll have to ride for about 90 minutes to get to Likupang Port. There, you can rent a boat for Rp 700.000, that’s big enough for 20 people! The price varies, of course, higher if you’re buying from a tour agent and cheaper if you know the right people. The journey by boat is only 30-40 minutes long, and climbing on the boat’s roof is a way to go.

Truly Uninhabited

Nobody’s living there, nobody’s selling anything there. If you’re going to Pulau Lihaga without travel agencies or guides, you better bring some food and drinks, because there’s no vendor there (though at times some locals would come to sell food).

Unfortunately, I didn’t take enough photos to showcase Lihaga and its gorgeous ocean. My photography skills are in need of serious honing, but I hope these few are enough to lure you to Indonesia and its beauty! 🙂
